See and do in the area

There’s obviously lots of things to see and do in Andalucía – likely that’s part of the reason you chose to came here in the first place. Without trying to offer you a comprehensive guide, here are a few of our favourite suggestions for trips around the area.

Mijas Pueblo

Mijas Pueblo is located in the mountains just a short drive from La Cala de Mijas – you can clearly see it from the apartment on the mountain slope straight ahead. Its white washed houses and access to hiking trails will give you a nice experience of both genuine Andalucian tradition and its nature just around the corner.

Málaga

Málaga is the second largest city in Andalucia after Seville and offers a wide range of things to do. There is plenty of shopping for those who are looking to go on a shopping spree. For the historian Málaga’s architecture and culture will be of interest. The Moors ruled in the area for around 700 years and have left cultural marks everywhere. Visit the Alcazaba of Málaga and Castillo Gibralfaro to get to know the history of Málaga more.

Fuengirola

The city is largely influenced by tourism which started to grow in the 1960’s. There is a 8 km long beach with many restaurants and bars. 25% of the inhabitants come from other countries which have of course impacted the city.

If you want to explore Fuengirola besides the beach you can visit the Bioparc Fuengirola and historical sites such as the Arab castle of Suhayl.

Benalmàdena

A family oriented city which besides the mandatory beach offers many nice activities such as Tivoli World, Selwo Marina to watch dolphinos, the shark aquarium Sealife and the Butterfly Park.

Marbella and Puerto Banús

Marbella is an important and popular tourist city in Andalucia which is characterized by its exclusiveness. There is a wide range of restaurants and you will be able to stroll along the boardwalk and take a swim whenever you feel like it. 6 km from Marbella you will find the marina Puerto Banús with exclusive yachts, restaurants and shopping malls.

Gibraltar

Gibraltar hardly needs an introduction. Famous for its Rock, the sovereignty of this overseas territory of the United Kingdom regularly appears as a subject of debate in the Anglo-Spanish relationship With about 34.000 citizens it is one of the most densely populated territories in the world. And that is not even counting its most famous inhabitants, the macaques monkeys.

Ronda

Ronda is another white washed village inland. It’s mostly known for its 120 meter deep ravine, El Tajo, the bridges across it making for some spectacular scenery.

For those who are staying longer we recommend to take a couple of days and go to Granada, Seville and Córdoba.
